The Governors are here to support the strategic development of the school and to support the Headteacher and the leadership team to move the school forward and ensuring the needs of all the learners’ are met. Governors come from all walks of life and fulfil different roles according to their skills. The Governing Board has a vital role in raising and maintaining standards.
School governors are also involved in the school community, acting as critical friends to the headteacher and senior leaders. The main responsibilities of a school governor include:
-
That the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
-
That the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
-
The sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources
If you are in school, you may see Governors around, as we do visit classrooms and talk to the staff about how well the learners are doing. All Governors will be wearing a yellow lanyard to make sure we are easy to identify.
